1.
the lone pelican
perched on top of the trash can
posing for tourists.
2.
These humans were trained
to “oooh” and “aaah” then feed him
all their table scraps
3.
he stretches his wings
threat’ning to find a new perch
that might yield more snacks,
4.
then, as if on cue,
the piece of bun tossed at him
quickly disappears.
5.
the crowd seems amazed;
the pelican just looks bored.
this is his routine.
6.
pacific sunsets
just seem to have more magic
than the ones back home.
7.
man, what’s I that smell?!
smells like water, fish, and salt.
dude, that’s the ocean.
