HAIKU OF THE DAY (freight train versus Coltrane) – 04172017

1.

the rooster’s crowing

was drowned out by the freight train

and ambulances.

2.

with roosters next door,

fire trucks ’round the corner,

who expects quiet?

3.

“extreme ambience”

is what urban dwellers hear

instead of “quiet”

4.

loud days beget nights

that rival the days’ thunder

in sound and fury.

5.

man, it ain’t never

quiet in my neighborhood!

there’s always some noise.

6.

music is my way

of drowning out all the noise

that disturbs my calm.

7.

John Coltrane cancels

both the rooster and freight train’s

disturbance of peace.
