SUMMER MADNESS IN CHICAGO (an Andaree poem)

In Chicago, summer brings on a madness-

Temporarily insane, I guess.

Victims fall like shell casings.

There’s no replacing

lost babies.

Strings

of “maybes”

are chalk lines tracing

dreams bullets keep displacing.

Tragedy’s more interesting than success

headline grabbing, tear-jerking, summer madness.
