TO THE WHITE LADY SMILING ON THE GREEN LINE TRAIN (haiku)

1.

Those cute black children

Are not opportunities

To assuage white guilt.

2.

Stop smiling at them

They’re not easily amused

By friendly strangers.

3.

Go smile at those teens,

And ask them how old they are.

What, not cute enough?

4.

Your smile doesn’t prove

That you are not a racist.

It just shows your teeth.
