Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos announced changes to school funding. In a highly controversial move, the embattled presidential cabinet member rolled out the “Use it or Lose it” her department’s latest policy. The program mandates that public school districts across the country must use of every item of their inventory. This includes items that are in storage. School districts not in compliance may lose federal funding. The new policy also deducts the reutilized items from the district’s budget allocations. The ACLU has already filed suit alleging that the policy is discriminatory and downright silly. Secretary DeVos only comment since the announcement has been, “Why should the government buy schools new furniture, when they have perfectly good stuff collecting dust in storage?”
